Wrights of Howth Present the Foxford Michael Collins Throw – A Tribute to Irish History
Wrights of Howth are proud to showcase the stunning Foxford Michael Collins Throw, a piece rich in Irish history and charm.
In July 1922, a specially commissioned Foxford travel blanket was gifted to General Michael Collins to mark his appointment as Commander-in-Chief of the newly established Irish Army. Just a month later, in August 1922, Collins was tragically killed when his armoured car was ambushed at Béal na Bláth. The blanket, which had been with him in the car, was later recovered by Nurse Nora O’Donaghue at Shanakiel Hospital and eventually donated to the National Museum.
In honour of this significant piece of history, Foxford has reproduced the iconic throw in collaboration with Michael Collins House, Clonakilty, County Cork. Woven in the traditional Foxford check, this warm and durable throw is made from a vintage 4-ply yarn in olive, gold, and white. It features a bespoke Michael Collins House label and is finished with a classic roll fringe, offering both comfort and a meaningful connection to Ireland’s heritage.
