Ordering & payment
What payment methods do you accept?
You can pay securely by all major credit and debit cards, and by PayPal. Apple Pay and Google Pay are also available at the payment step on supported devices. Payment is taken in full when you place your order.
Is the checkout secure?
Yes. Our checkout runs over an encrypted (HTTPS) connection and card payments are handled by Stripe and PayPal. We never see or store your full card details on our website.
Can I send an order to more than one address, or add a gift message?
Yes. You can send a single order to several different addresses from the checkout, and add a personal gift message (up to 170 characters) to each delivery. Gift messages are printed and included with the parcel, and each destination is packed and priced separately. You will need to be logged in to your account to use multi-address shipping; once logged in, the option to ship to multiple addresses appears on the checkout page.
Do you take corporate or bulk orders?
Yes. We have a corporate ordering facility: you can download a pre-formatted Excel spreadsheet, add your requirements, and upload it to us to place the order. For more information, contact sales@wrightsofhowth.com.
Can I choose the delivery date?
Yes. At checkout you can pick a preferred shipping date from the calendar. Orders placed for a date further ahead are held and released automatically so they ship close to your chosen date. Please note this is the dispatch date; transit time is added on top.
Shipping & delivery
Which countries do you deliver to?
We deliver within Ireland, to the United Kingdom and Isle of Man, to most European countries, to the United States, and to a wide range of other countries worldwide. We do not currently ship to Canada, Australia or New Zealand. Some products cannot travel to certain countries, see the question on smoked salmon and alcohol below.
What are your dispatch days?
We dispatch orders Monday to Friday, with a 12:00 noon (Irish time) cut-off. Orders containing smoked salmon or other perishable food are dispatched Monday to Wednesday only, so the fish is not sitting in transit over a weekend. We do not dispatch on Irish bank holidays.
How long will delivery take?
Delivery times depend on the destination and are estimates only. Irish, UK and many European orders typically arrive within a couple of working days of dispatch. Orders further afield take longer, and customs clearance can add time on international shipments.
How is the shipping cost worked out?
Shipping is calculated live at checkout by UPS, based on the delivery destination and the total weight of your order. You will see the exact cost before you pay.
Can I track my delivery?
Yes. When we create your shipping label, UPS sends a tracking email to the address on your order so you can follow its progress.
Do you deliver to PO boxes?
No. Our courier (UPS) cannot deliver to PO boxes, so please give a full street address.
Why do you ask for the recipient's phone number?
UPS may need to contact the recipient to arrange or confirm delivery, especially for perishable orders and addresses that are harder to find. A mobile number helps your parcel arrive on time.
Can you ship smoked salmon and alcohol everywhere you deliver?
Not to every country. We cannot ship alcohol to the United States or the United Kingdom, and we cannot ship perishable food (including smoked salmon) to the United States. If your basket contains an item we cannot send to your chosen destination, the checkout will let you know.
Pricing, VAT & customs
Is VAT included in your prices?
Prices are shown in Euro and include Irish VAT where it applies. The tax shown at checkout can vary depending on the items in your basket and your delivery country.
Will I have to pay customs charges?
For orders to the United States, estimated US import duties and tariffs are collected at checkout through our carrier’s duty-paid service, so there is usually nothing further to pay on delivery. For other countries outside the EU, any customs duties or taxes are normally the recipient’s responsibility and are set by the destination country.
How do I see prices in my own currency?
Our prices are charged in Euro. To estimate the cost in your own currency, use any online currency converter. Your bank sets the final exchange rate when your card is charged.
Our food & products
What is the shelf life of your smoked salmon?
Our smoked salmon keeps for around two to three weeks from dispatch while the pack stays sealed and refrigerated. Always go by the use-by date printed on the pack.
Can I freeze smoked salmon?
We recommend enjoying our smoked salmon fresh and chilled rather than freezing it, as freezing can affect the delicate texture. Please follow the guidance printed on the pack.
What is the difference between cold-smoked and hot-smoked salmon?
Cold-smoked salmon is cured and smoked at a low temperature, so it stays silky and translucent with a delicate flavour and is sliced thin. It is the traditional Irish style. Hot-smoked salmon is smoked at a higher temperature, so it is cooked through, firmer, and flakes like cooked fish.
What is the difference between wild and organic salmon?
Wild salmon is caught at sea or in rivers in small, tightly regulated quantities. Organic salmon is farmed to certified organic standards. Our oak-smoked salmon is organic Irish salmon, which gives a consistent quality throughout the year.
Are there allergens or artificial preservatives in your smoked salmon?
Our traditional smoked salmon is made simply from salmon, salt and natural oak smoke, with no artificial preservatives. Fish is the allergen present. For other products and any flavoured lines, please check the individual product page or label.
Where do your products come from?
Wrights of Howth has been smoking salmon on Howth’s West Pier since 1893. Our smoked salmon is Irish, and our gift range brings together hampers, Irish food and drink, and quality Irish-made gifts.
How should I serve smoked salmon, and what wine goes with it?
Smoked salmon is at its best simply served, with brown bread, lemon and a little butter or cream cheese, or folded through pasta, eggs or salads. A dry white wine pairs beautifully; a Gewürztraminer or a crisp Sauvignon Blanc works particularly well.
Returns, your data & about us
What is your returns policy?
For food-safety reasons we cannot accept returns of perishable products such as smoked salmon and cheese once they have shipped, unless they arrive damaged or faulty. If anything is wrong with your order, contact us straight away and we will put it right.
What happens to my personal data?
We use your details only to process and deliver your order and to provide customer service. We handle personal data in line with GDPR and our Privacy Policy, and we do not sell your information.
