Award-Winning Oak Smoked Irish Organic Salmon

Refund and Returns Policy

We want you to be delighted with everything you order from Wrights of Howth. This page explains what you can return, what you can’t, and how refunds and cancellations work. Your statutory rights as a consumer are not affected by anything below.

The short version

  • Gifts and non-food items (homeware, jewellery, glassware, soaps, accessories and similar): return within 30 days of delivery, unused and in their original condition and packaging.
  • Fresh and perishable food (oak-smoked salmon, seafood, chilled or frozen food, and hampers containing perishable food): for food-safety and hygiene reasons these cannot be returned or exchanged once they have left us. This is the one exception to the 30-day window, and it is allowed under Irish and EU consumer law.
  • Anything that arrives damaged, faulty or not what you ordered is always covered. Tell us within 48 hours of delivery and we will put it right with a replacement or a refund.

1. Non-perishable goods

You can return any non-food item within 30 days of the delivery date, as long as it is unused, undamaged and in its original condition and packaging. This includes gifts, homeware, jewellery, accessories and similar items.

Wine, champagne and spirits can be returned within the same 30 days only if they are unopened with all seals intact. We cannot accept opened alcohol. Alcohol may only be returned by a person aged 18 or over.

2. Perishable and food products

Oak-smoked salmon, seafood, and any chilled, frozen or fresh food, including gift hampers that contain perishable food, cannot be returned or exchanged once dispatched. This is because we cannot guarantee the safety or quality of food once it has left our control, and the law allows us to exclude perishable goods from the standard right to return.

This does not affect your rights if something is wrong with your order. If perishable goods arrive damaged, spoiled, below our usual standard, or are not what you ordered, contact us within 48 hours of delivery (see section 6) and we will replace the item or refund you in full.

3. Gift cards and personalised items

Gift cards and any personalised or made-to-order items cannot be returned or refunded unless they are faulty.

4. How to start a return

  1. Email us at sales@wrightsofhowth.com or call +353 1 832 3937 within the return window, quoting your order number.
  2. Tell us what you would like to return and why.
  3. We will confirm the return and give you the address to send the item back to.

Please do not send anything back before contacting us. Returns should be sent to: Wrights of Howth, 14 West Pier, Howth, Co. Dublin, D13 YD93, Ireland.

5. Who pays for return postage

  • For unwanted non-perishable items, you cover the cost of return postage, and we recommend using a tracked service as the item is your responsibility until it reaches us.
  • If an item is faulty, damaged or incorrect, we cover the return cost or arrange collection. You will never be out of pocket for our mistake.

6. Damaged, faulty or incorrect orders

If your order arrives damaged, faulty or not as described, contact us within 48 hours of delivery with your order number and a photo of the problem. We will arrange a replacement, a redelivery or a full refund, whichever you prefer. For perishable food this 48-hour window matters, so please check your delivery promptly.

7. Cancelling an order

If you need to cancel, contact us as soon as possible. If your order has not yet been dispatched we will cancel it and refund you in full. Once a perishable order has been dispatched it cannot be cancelled, for the food-safety reasons above.

8. How and when you get your refund

Approved refunds are issued to your original payment method. We process refunds within 14 days of receiving the returned item, or within 14 days of agreeing a refund for a damaged or incorrect order. Your bank may take a few additional days to show the funds.

9. Your statutory rights

Nothing in this policy limits your legal rights. Customers in Ireland and the EU are protected by the Consumer Rights Act 2022 and EU consumer law; customers in the UK by the Consumer Rights Act 2015 and the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013. These give you rights around faulty goods and, for most non-perishable goods bought at a distance, a minimum 14-day cancellation period. Perishable goods are exempt from the cancellation right under that same legislation.
